Hello

I’m Alec McGrath, a wildlife photographer based in the Canadian Rockies. My work is about capturing moments that reveal both the beauty and the resilience of wild places, from familiar animals close to home to those often overlooked in faraway landscapes.

My Story

My name is Alec McGrath, and I’m a wildlife conservationist, photographer and filmmaker originally from New Brunswick, and currently based in the Bow Valley of Alberta, Canada. My work has taken me from the valleys of the Rockies to the bushveld of southern Africa, where I’ve spent time photographing everything from elephants, bears, elk and kudu, to lesser-known animals that often don't get the spotlight.

I come from a background in guiding, video, and conservation, but what drives me most is a deep respect for the natural world. The experiences that stay with me are rarely just about what I see, they’re about what I hear and feel in the moment. The bugle of an elk in the rut, the weight of a grizzly pushing through brush, the calls of the hyena after dusk, these encounters shape the way I connect with wildlife and the way I try to capture it.

Through my photography, I hope to shine a light on the wilderness we too often overlook. Every image is personal to me, but my goal is that they serve as reminders of the wild spirit still alive all around us. My prints and films are not just art, they’re invitations to pause, to look closer, and to remember what’s still out there, and what needs protecting.
